Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about using StetPro.

The basics

What is StetPro?
StetPro lets students develop their own work by speaking it. It keeps the original recording and the raw speech-to-text transcript, then creates a separate formatted copy so each stage can be reviewed.
Is it a website or an app?
You sign in at stetpro.net and use StetPro straight away. There is nothing to install.
What devices can I use?
StetPro works on everyday computers, tablets and phones with a working microphone. We do not claim that every device combination is supported.
Do I need a special microphone?
No. StetPro uses your device’s own microphone, or any headset or microphone your device already recognises. No specialist recording equipment is needed.

Recording

How is audio recorded?
You record directly inside StetPro. Your device will ask permission to use the microphone the first time. While you speak, a live transcript appears; when you stop, the transcript is completed and saved with the work.
Can I upload an existing recording?
No. Uploading audio files is not part of the student workflow. Recording takes place inside StetPro so the record starts at the moment the work is spoken.
What happens on iPhone or iPad?
You can record on iPhone and iPad. On some devices, the live transcript shown while you speak may be delayed or less complete. If the live preview is interrupted, StetPro uses the saved recording to complete the transcript after you stop.

Formatting

What does StetPro formatting change?
Punctuation, capitalisation, where sentences begin and end, paragraphing, a tightly limited set of spoken fillers such as “um”, and punctuation you dictate, such as saying “full stop”.
What does it not change?
It does not correct your grammar, change your ideas, paraphrase or reword you, swap in better vocabulary, or make your writing sound more academic. The raw transcript is kept unchanged alongside the formatted copy.

Educators and your work

What can an educator review?
Where an administrator has enabled review access, a teacher can see the finalised work of students assigned to them, including the raw transcript and the formatted copy. Drafts are not shown.
When can educators hear audio?
Playing the original audio is a separate permission. Being able to read a transcript does not mean being able to listen to the recording, and audio playback by an educator is recorded in the audit history.
Can students delete work?
Yes. Students can view, export and delete their own work. What is retained, and for how long, depends on whether StetPro is used through an institution or as an individual.
How is work exported?
As Word (.docx), PDF or plain text, or by copying the text. Exporting copies the work out; it does not change what StetPro has kept.

Accounts and pricing

How do individual and institutional accounts work?
Accounts are not created by self sign-up. Institutions set up accounts for their students and staff. Individuals can make an individual enquiry.
How does pricing and licensing work?
Individual plans are priced per person. Institutional plans are priced per student per year; teacher and administrator accounts are included. Full details are on the Pricing page.
