How StetPro works
From spoken ideas to written work, with the original kept
A student speaks their own work. StetPro records the student’s speech, stores the original speech-to-text transcript before any StetPro formatting, and can produce a separate formatted copy for reading without changing the student’s wording.
The finished document is not the only thing left behind. Depending on how an account or institution is configured, the recording, the original transcript and the audit entries around them stay attached to the work.
What you actually use
- StetPro works on everyday computers, tablets and phones. There is nothing to install.
- Students record their work directly inside StetPro using their device’s own microphone.
- No specialist recording equipment is needed; a working microphone is enough.
- Uploading existing audio files is not part of the student workflow. Recording happens inside StetPro.
- On iPhone and iPad, the live transcript shown while speaking may be delayed or less complete on some devices. If the live preview is interrupted, the saved recording is used to complete the transcript after recording stops.
Speak naturally
The student starts a recording and talks through their work in their own words. Nothing is asked of a generator: the ideas and the wording come from the student. As they speak, StetPro builds the original transcript, which appears live on screen so they can see the work taking shape.
Recording can be paused and resumed, and further sections can be added to a piece of work later. The original transcript is not edited by hand; if something needs correcting, the student attaches a separate clarification that is labelled as added after recording.
Keep the original
The finished document does not have to stand alone as the only evidence of how the work was produced. Where the workflow and permissions allow it, StetPro retains the material below alongside the work.
The original audio
Held in private storage and opened only through a time-limited link, for people whose permissions allow it.
The original transcript
Stored before StetPro's formatting stage and never edited by the student, so the starting point for formatting stays intact.
Audit entries
Events such as finalising an item, adding a clarification, deleting work, or an educator opening a transcript or playing audio.
What is retained, and who can open it, depends on the account and on how an institution has configured access. Not every configuration exposes every part of the record to everybody.
Formatting without rewriting
The speech-to-text service may add basic punctuation and paragraphs, but the result is often hard to read as written work. StetPro can produce a separate formatted copy of the original transcript that deals with presentation: sentence boundaries, punctuation, capitalisation, paragraphing and a tightly controlled set of spoken artefacts such as false starts and repeated filler.
It is not there to improve the writing. StetPro does not rewrite, paraphrase, restructure the argument, make the language more academic or supply better wording. The student’s words and ideas remain theirs, and the original transcript stays available beside the formatted copy so the two can be compared.

Evidence behind the work
Where an institution has configured access, an authorised educator can review the evidence attached to finalised work: the original transcript, the formatted version, any clarification the student added, when the work was finalised, and the original audio where that separate permission has been granted.
Access is granted rather than assumed. An educator account starts with no access to student work. An administrator enables review access for a particular educator and chooses which students that educator supports, within the same organisation, and only finalised items appear. Audio is a separate permission again, so transcripts can be reviewable while audio stays unavailable.
Export and continue working
StetPro is not meant to replace the place a student normally writes. Once the work exists, it can be taken onwards as a Word document (.docx), a PDF, plain text (.txt), or copied straight to the clipboard. A student can also download the original audio of their own work.
Exporting does not change what is stored. The original transcript, the formatted version and the recording stay as they were, so the record remains intact after the document has moved on. explains what that record is for and who can see it.
